Exercise Social Xtra March 2024

For our Social Xtra afternoons, we try to bring you something a little different and our gathering in March was certainly not to sit and listen to your typical talk! Karen Lawrie, a fitness instructor ensured we would not be sitting down for long!

We’ve all heard how important it is to stay active as we get older, but for some of us, despite good intentions, it really isn’t that easy. Karen talked about the benefits both physical and mental of keeping active. But the emphasis was on having a laugh whilst being active.

She had a postural check of how we sit in a chair, and then straight into the warm-up! The interactive session was full of music and gentle exercises, some seated and others using a chair for support. Each section of the session was choreographed to help everyone get the most out of it.

Most of the session was seated, but she did ask everyone, if they could, to stand up and go behind their chairs (to use as a support if necessary), and she did a few minutes standing and strengthening the legs. Then, when everyone sat, we had a chance to sing and exercise the lungs.

The session ended with a track which was slow and relaxing to stretch and focus on breathwork. If you enjoyed it perhaps we can look at the possibility of a new group or short course?
