ABOUT STANWAY u3a - Registered Charity No.1171008
Established in 2008, Stanway u3a (alongside Colchester u3a) serves the people of Colchester and its surrounding towns and villages. We currently have over 800 members and are always open to new members.
We are a lively and friendly group of people who wish to continue to learn and take up new interests and activities in spite of, or because of, having reached the "Third Age" – the period after the first age of childhood dependence and the second age of full time employment and/or parental responsibility.
As a volunteer run charity we do not own property or have a permanent base. We make regular use of the community facilities available in our local area for most of our activities. Our monthly meetings and "Social Xtra" events for members take place at Stanway Village Hall, for more information see our EVENTS page.

Stanway u3a is managed through an elected volunteer Executive Committee supported by active sub groups as shown.
The Executive Committee meets monthly (currently via Zoom) to review current and planned activities and events, and financial matters.
If you want to get in touch with a committee member visit our Contact page.
Sub-Committees meet monthly or quarterly and as the need arises.
ABOUT THE u3a MOVEMENT
The u3a movement, which is supported by The Third Age Trust, is a unique and exciting organisation which provides, through more than 1000 local independent u3as, life-enhancing and life-changing opportunities. There are well over 430,000 members nationally.
The members in local u3as all across the UK come together and learn together, not for qualifications but for its own reward: the sheer joy of discovery. Members share their skills and life experiences: the learners teach and the teachers learn, and there is no distinction between them.
Each u3a is run entirely by volunteers and draws upon the knowledge, experience and skills of its own members to organise and provide interest groups and activities in accordance with the wishes of the local membership.
