On Tuesday and Wednesday 5th and 6th November the Pétanque group held our annual singles competition. Group members accrued personal points as opposed to playing and scoring in teams.
For each game, the nearest Boule to the coch (aka “Jack”) collected 3 points, 2nd nearest 2 points and 3rd nearest 1 point. We played 13 games (“ends”) and on completion tallied up the scores.
In the past we only played on one day and had a play-off for finalists to declare an outright winner.
Due to the group now being split between 2 playing days, and with numbers attending varying between the days skewing the results for an outright winner, I decided it would be fairer to declare a winner from each day.
Sadly, we only have one trophy at the moment so the 2 winners get to share the trophy for 6 months each. Pictured are the winners receiving their trophy:
Vera Jupp was the winner of the Tuesday group; runner up was Jane Smith
Keith Easterbrook was winner of the Wednesday group; runner up was Margaret Meen.
Well done all, we had a very enjoyable 2 days and members are keen to play again “competition style” as a break from the regular team games.
