Are you a thinker? Would you like to have the opportunity to discuss your ideas with like-minded people in a congenial atmosphere? Then why not try the Thinking Allowed Group.
We meet once a month, in our Group Leaders home, to discuss a variety of topics chosen by the Group members. A different subject is introduced by a Group member each month and we all express our views, while being gently moderated by the Leader in order to keep us “on subject”.
The member doing the introduction does some research on the subject prior to the meeting using a variety of sources (internet, radio, books, etc.), and it has become the norm to provide information in advance of the meeting to the other members on where these can be found. The introduction usually consists of a brief summary of the major points of the subject on which to structure the discussion.
There is no formality involved – it’s just an arena for those who enjoy, or would like the opportunity to enjoy, talking about topical subjects, and discovering the views of others in a semi-structured format. We laugh, complain and despair, although sometimes not in equal measure! If you want to get something off your chest then this is the place to do it – at least there’s no risk of boring others with your heartfelt views!
To give you an idea of the sort of subjects we discuss we have in the past covered Climate Change, Modern Monetary Theory, the Situation in the Sahel, and the Poor State of the UK Justice System, while possible future subjects are – What should our Future Policy be Towards China? Should we Attempt to Re-join the EU? What should the UK’s Policy be towards Stemming the Flow of Illegal Immigrants?
We welcome and accept a complete cross section of views, and new outlooks are particularly welcome.
Meetings take place monthly on 3rd Tuesday at 10.30am.
