This thriving, vibrant, fun Ukuele group first formed in 2013 and met at Copford until 2019 when life took a funny turn. Thanks to Zoom we have survived as a group and at the end of July 2021 we started face to face meetings again. We have had to move to a new day and venue but it is great to be back

Our new home is in Birch and we meet weekly on a Thursday Morning at 9:30 - 11:15 approx.

At the present time we are running one session and playing straight through, we bring our own refreshments with us and enjoy a catch up at the end. This format may change when we all feel comfortable to do so.

We enjoy finding and developing many songs putting our own unique twist on them to best suit the uke and expand our songbook. We are always on the lookout for new material so all suggestions are welcome. Some members of this group have performed over the last 4 years in various venues, most recently at the D’Ukes fest 2017 held at the Arts Centre in Colchester, the Wivenhoe folk festival and various folk clubs. An even smaller number have performed at sheltered housing and lunch groups for the elderly. The most recent performances being the Stanway U3A Variety Show 2018 and the Singalong with Stanway U3A concert in June 2019 and the Oyster Feast at the Moat Hall in October 2019.

Big House event

Big House event Oct 2019 In October 2019 a number of us from both our u3a Ukulele groups hot footed it to a Ukulele indulged weekend at a hotel in Gloucester for an event called the Big House. The whole hotel was taken over and every form of uke and music were enjoyed by all. We had chances to do workshops to improve our techniques and the Stanway Strummers performed on two days at the open mic which was great fun and warmly received.

We were treated to a lovely gala meal and to top it all, in addition to all the great acts that performed over the weekend, The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain filled one evening with their unique performance and stayed on to do a workshop the following morning. All in all, everyone seemed to really enjoy the whole experience.
