Bury St Edmunds is said to be the jewel in Suffolk’s Crown. Surrounded by beautiful countryside and steeped in over 1,000 years of history, Bury St Edmunds is the historic home of Saint Edmund, the original patron saint of England. In medieval times, the Abbey of St Edmund was one of the richest and most powerful Benedictine monasteries in the country, attracting pilgrims from across Europe to visit St Edmund’s shrine. Although the Abbey was dissolved in 1539, the mystery of Edmund’s final resting place remains—many believe he still lies hidden within the Abbey ruins which you can stroll at your leisure.
It is known for its great mix of independent & High Street favourite shops and for being Suffolk's Foodie Capital with its fantastic eateries, and this town takes Christmas seriously!
The Cathedral Christmas Fair is held over just 3 days, with our trip taking place on the 1st day. Entrance to the Cathedral and Fair is £2 payable at the entrance. Visitors are welcome to look around this beautiful cathedral. Be sure to pick up an introductory leaflet.
