May 2021 - The Stanway Mah Jong group have, at long last, met up to play.
We had two pods at the Live and Let Live pub, 4 in each. We enjoyed lunch and then played. We were all a bit rusty but soon got back into the swing of it. It was a little windy and chilly, but the sun did come out and I think we all had fun. The group is restricted by numbers so can't accept new members for the foreseeable future.
Mah Jong as we know it today, originated in the late 19th Century in China. A tile based game for skill, strategy and calculation with a degree of chance it is fascinating and can become addictive!
Our group started in December 2014 and is a lively and friendly crowd. The Mah Jong Group meets twice a week on Monday and Thursday afternoons at a Group members' house, who has kindly offered to host the meetings. Members give the host £1 for each session. Meetings last for approximately two hours. Not everyone plays both times – it depends on availability. We have novices and experienced players and we can teach anyone who would like to learn. It is not difficult, it just requires a certain amount of concentration, adaptability and competitiveness.
